It’s official!

'Fatimah's Kampung' by Iain Buchanan

Gosh, time flies by! Ok, in my defence, I just found how to re-log in my wordpress account, forgot my password and was unable to retreive it.. So for you guys who have the same problem, here’s what you do:

  • You log in your CPANEL, then your PHP My Admin zone (that’s your database zone)
  • You find the appropriate database if you have a few. Then open the users table (wp_users by default), click modify/edit (whatever) for the user you want to make the change to.
  • Remove whatever is in the field currently for the password, type in a new one, then choose MD5 from the dropdown box (heading should be “Function”) and hit Go/Save (whatever)..
  • In doubt, MAKE A BACKUP FIRST!

Voilà.

So, we now have the money to fund our house, which in the words of the bank lady, is a big but beautiful project. lol. Meaning: you guys are crazy to embark in this for your first house. Yeah, I know. We were then drowned in terms like, insurances, life insurances, do you have insurances, and you have to take care of your insurability, whatever that means. So I think we can translate all of that with: we want more money from you. A guy will contact us for that, which I then joked about with Cheri:

- Can you imagine? A vendeur d’assurance will come in our apartment!

- What? She never said that! She talked about a representative…

- Well a guy will come and try to sell us insurance, what do you think he is?

- …!

Ok, sorry for the insurance peeps in the world, but cheri and I don’t have a good opinion about insurance in general, less about people trying to sell us the idea of fear. DOn’t give me wrong, I do have insurances, we will get some (actually, we can’t do our project if we don’t have some), but really, insurability? That’s not even a word! If only we could GET BACK ALL THE MONEY WE ARE GIVING YOU «JUST IN CASE». That would be swell! So?

Also official: Mathias is now walking. Like 4 steps at a time. But still walking! My baby is growing up, please time, will you just stop! Lol!

So that’s for the personal stuff. Summer is well under way here (we are having a heat wave!), So going up north will be great, being generally cooler. I don’t feel like summer though, weird huh? I guess I need vacations!

Updates blurb!

I’m certainly NOT the type to make excuses. That said, my work load has been, well quite loaded since last time I post, which is, yikes, in April!

So a few updates:

We bought our land in the Laurentides, and if everything goes smoothly, we are planning to start building our house this summer. We are excited, stressed and kinda in a spaced out mood. Which on second tough might be the work load, who knows!?

So yeah, lot’s of cool clients, little time for myself (AKA this blog!), but hey, gotta live right? And unfortunately social media is munching-up time I don’t have, so Twitter-Facebook-Blog, sorry for the ditch, I’ll be back eventually.

Also, we are in prep for new services, new look, new peeps in the virtual studio, bref, we haz been beezy!

Also -also: my son’s been growing up, as baby do unfortunately, and I’ve been trying to keep up, as mom do the best they can! He is on the verge of walking without any help, also called the wall, and he is extra fast on fours (I’m sure he is faster than a cheetah!), so I’ve been trying to type this for weeks, only to be swept away by the little one doing dangerous stuff where I can’t see him! Boys!

So that’s pretty much what been going on. Oh, and I’m def. motivated to loose the extra pounds I can’t seem to shed away. I’ve bought Jillian Michaels dvd and her book too, also another book which seem quite promising. I’ve got a training bud. I’m thinking of maybe joining a support group somewhere (or create my own, wait, right, no-time, so screw that!). I’ve got a HS reunion at the end of the summer which I’m not quite sure to got yet, but maybe a new bod would help my motivation. We’ll see!

Ok, my son’s doing a weird sound with something, gotta fly!

Available soon: Templates!

Seems I’m having more and more demands for templates, so I’ve decided to give it a try! Having a website designed for you doesn’t come in cheap, so this will be my way to encourage small business owner & crafty peeps! So soon I will be offering templates for Wordpress sites, one page site and maybe even an e-commerce website…

Here’s the deal

The exclusive template will be up for grabs for a week. So if you want the template to be your’s only, you have to be quick and buy it in that time frame. After a week, if it hasn’t been reserved by anybody, then it will become a non-exclusive (hum, got to find a better wording for that!) template which will be less expensive, obviously.

Want to be quicker than quick?

Then subscribe to the newsletter, you will be notified in advance of any upcoming template release (with a small preview, let’s not forget!).

Are you an artist or designer and want to make extra bucks?

Hey, I’m looking for artist and designer which are interested in designing a template for the Studio Rose Flash! You DON’T have to know HTML and how to code (I’ll take care of that part), and you will be fully credited for your work (plus I’ll make a designer/artist page on the main website for you). If this is tickling your business fancy, send me an email and we’ll have a chat about it!

Don’t be a web fashion victim

FASHION VICTIM Illo from tomas lanza

{Illustration from Tomas Lanza}

I was thinking lately about websites, which is about 10% of my daily thinking (I’m a mom, so 10% is HUGE! 75% is baby thoughts (which includes a 20% worrying), 10% is for food, coffee and chocolate, 5% is daydreaming)

Anyway, back to websites. If you’re like me, you probably own a few fashion items in your closet. Now my question: do you wear them all, or, as myself, do you splurge and forget? Or, even worse, do you buy say a pretty dress and then decide after the purchase that it’s hideous on you? Wait, weren’t we talking about websites?

I have had a few clients who had similar fashion problems, but with their websites. They come to me because they already have a website, but it’s not doing anything for their branding. It’s hideous and they were wrongly advised by their (previous) «web-person» who «knew» Dreamweaver and Flash and made them a «nice» website for a few bucks.

Quite frankly, even though they paid little for it, it’s still money thrown out the monitor. But their website is making their brand look skimpish, as these trousers make my butt look fat!

So what to do?!

Invest in classic pieces and stick to essentials!

Jeans, black trousers, Manolo pumps, crisp white shirts: essentials in your wardrobe (ok, maybe not the Manolos, but this momma can dream)! Well, there are also essentials in web design, and though it might cost you a bit more than pre-made templates, your branding frame should have a perfect fit! Here are 5 quick tips:

1- Hire a professional web designer = hiring a stylist. Your cousin may «know» fashion, but would you ask her to style your wardrobe for an event that would be the pinpoint of your acting career (let’s say, the Academy Awards)? A competent

2- Look the part. Even though you are still small doesn’t mean you should look shabby.

3- Invest in a clean line. A suit looks sharps on everybody. Coco Chanel’s suits are timeless. Your website should have a personality (aka a branding image) but ultimately, your image shouldn’t interfere with your message (aka your content)

4- You can’t take a clown seriously. Flowers, polka dots, comic sans, flashy buttons, every colors of the rainbow, music (I hate music on a website, esp. if I can’t shut it!), Flash intro, snow animations… Stick to 3 or 4 colors, two fonts and avoid Comic sans like plague. As for the web-gadgets, if you feel like you need them, try working on your content instead! Here is a post about DCS, or design clutter syndrom!

5- In the end, your brains will best your look. A good website design will pique the interest of your audience and should hint your credibility, but your content will prove it. Your content is what will sell your product (service, writing, illustrations, etc).

So, are you a Web fashion victim?

I see LAND!

So Friday we went up north again, seeking the perfect place to settle our little family. We already went to Val-David to check out a nice area on the side of a mountain. We fell in love with the village, and then the area: winter sports (10 minutes from the slopes!), the bike trail, the summer market, the artisan community, it was an instant coup-de coeur for us! Did I mention the fresh air? We are presently living behind a car-painting shop. Fresh air is a must for us!

So last Friday we dropped Mathias at Mamie’s house (which is right beneath ours, haha!) and went in the Laurentides to visit Le Domaine des 4 collines, a nice residential project 10 minutes from the Val-David village.

It was what we were looking for: an acre of forest, a nice community, the opportunity to have access to a lake! Wowee! We visited 4 lots in total AND in snowshoes, which was really weird because it was about 82 degrees (yup, you read that right)! We were in t-shirts and snowshoes!

So one lot in particular was especially nice, with a stream running at the end of it, with big trees and big larches and oh how the smell and the sounds were exquisite!

So this is to be continued, as we haven’t made a purchase yet! If you want to follow our dream house saga, read the road to our dream house category.

Font crush :: Inoxida

I’m in love with this super elegant yet casual script. The ampersand particularly is really interesting the way it plays with it’s line and white space. Definitely a keeper in my font book!
